One Last Heart to Break: a noir thriller + dating sim!

I've just started writing a new VN! One Last Heart to Break is a noir-inspired thriller/dating sim where you play as a femme fatale in 1950s LA.

You've just been acquitted for the murder of your husband, and after your release from jail, you get entangled in a conspiracy involving crooked cops, mobsters, and the corrupt city council. At the heart of the mystery is a massacre at a small seafood restaurant, an international fishing racket at the port of LA, and a missing briefcase full of bearer bonds.

All the while, you must avoid the wrath of your deceased husband's best friend -- a shady police captain with ties to the mob.

There are 3 love interests, all of which can be seduced in one playthrough, but eventually you must choose one to try and help escape with the bearer bonds. You can either settle down with the chosen LI after making your grand escape, or betray and murder him and take the bonds for yourself.

To get out of this alive, you'll have to lie and bend the truth, but push it too far and you might be the one who gets stabbed in the back.

It's in veeeery early development so no estimate on when it'll be finished or playable. Some references for the inspiration:

  • Chicago (2002)
  • Double Indemnity (1944)
  • Gone Girl (2014)
  • Psycho (1960)

Ooooh, sounds very interesting! I love romance games (aka otome/amare) and I enjoy your writing, so I look forward to the future release!! Can't wait to gaslight, girlboss, gatekeep™ my way into some bearer bonds.

Thanks for the interest!  I wasn't aware of the term "amare" but that's a good tag to describe my game, so thanks for giving me that idea haha!

Amare is a newer but pretty darn good term imo. More inclusive for sure.

Also, random questionL Can we date the shady police captain? It sounds exactly like the kind of messed up thing an especially unscrupulous femme fatale would do lol

Hehehe most definitely... now whether it succeeds or not will be an interesting question.

It would be the toxic romance to end all toxic romances but it would be GLORIOUS I tell ya

I would play the heck out of that route lol
